My Lucy
After lots of assessments and visits to the child psychologist she has been diagnosed with Apergers.
Asperger's Disorder or Syndrome is one of the Autistic Spectrum Disorders.
At the moment i am finding out as much about Apergers as possible - reading books, websites and any other info that i can find in order to have as much knowledge as possible about how the world works for Lucy.
It is important for me to do this so that i can try to understand things from her perspective but more importantly to help her with her life and any changes that might occur. The biggest change at the moment that Lucy will be facing is that she will be starting school next year and whilst it seems early to be thinking about that already it will take a lot of preparation to make sure she is ok to go and ready for the change and make it as smooth as possible. Can she ever be prepared enough?? I guess only time will tell. I hope so.
While we knew for a long long time that Lucy was "different" to other children and from a very young age has been having occupational therapy to help her with some sensory problems it was still a bit of a shock getting a diagnosis. A relief in one way to know what is actually wrong and to be able to find out what we can do to best help her and access any services that are available. But still shock and some saddness that she is not what is considered "normal" and that things from time to time are going to be hard for her. You start to think about how she will cope with different things at diffferent stages of life, will she be happy, will she make friends or will she be lonely?? So many things to think about. But on the other hand I am not sure that it bothers Lucy to play alone, is it just a thing that i want for her to have friends and things like that. Does she realise? I dont know.
I am happy that she will go to the same school as Ella because she is now familiar with the layout of the school and it will be a comfort to know her sister is there. I am glad that my girls are close. Not that they dont fight, but overall they love eachother a lot.

It has been a while.
The year is zooming along as usual (i can hardly believe that almost half the school year is almost over!). Ella is still loving school and doing very well so i am very proud of her and her achievments. She loves playing netball so Saturdays are a really fun day with her training and her netball match so that is good. She has 3 birthday parties that she has been invited to coming up and is very excited about them all. We have organised presents and everything so it is all done and ready.
Lucy has been having a bit of a hard time of late. She seems to have gone a little bit backwards in terms of her special needs and she is being reassassed by the child psychologist so that we can organised the right services and have strategies in place to make transitioning to school next year as smooth as possible. I am hoping it all goes well but we have a lot of work to do between now and then to get her ready. She has started at a new playgroup designed to help kids like her and as also a support group for the parents. We have been once and it was a good morning so we are looking forward to going again this week.
Right now Rose is in bed because she is not feeling very well. she says her head hurts and i hope she is ok. She will be having an operation on her eye to hopefully unblock her tear duct which will be much better for her and stop her getting so many eye infections. It is scary to think she will be having a general anaesthetic but what can you do it needs to be done i am sure she will be allright. She is such a funny and thing and a total boss!
We have all been fighting a cold the last few weeks which just seems to keep coming back just when you think it is under control! It is so annoying and frustrating, but i know we are not the only family who is going through the same thing.
School holidays in 2 weeks which is great!!!
In the last week or so my Oma has not been well and my thoughts are constantly on her and how she might be feeling and hoping that she is not in too much pain. It is especially hard for Mum because she is all the way over here and does not know when the best time to fly over is. A really hard situtaion all around. I love Oma so much.
Not much else has been happening with us just the usual going to school and stuff.
Lets hope these cold germs leave our house soon!

Monday Already!

So I will tell you about a few of the things that i am really liking at the moment.

Well for starters i am totally hooked on the Twilight series of books! They are fantastic and i love the movie too. I cannot wait until the next movie is released! The books are really relaxing to read and the you can get into the story easily.
I am loving today that the weather is good after a storm last night so taking Ella to school was made easier!!!
My favourite time of the day is the early morning and i can enjoy a quiet cup of tea before the day begins and before the kids are up. It is so lovely and quiet and a good time to catch up on the news!!!
Other stuff that i wanted to write about today..... Yesterday at swimming lessons Lucy went under water on her own for the very first time without being forced to do it! I was so proud of her and happy that she is enjoying her lessons now. It makes a huge difference that we are swimming now with friends and Lucy is absolutely in love with their girls so she is happy to be in the water with them and she feels safe and happy. It is nice having good friends.
Autumn has started and i am waiting for cooler weather!!! Excited though cause daylight savings is almost over! Whohooooooo
Ella starts netball this week so that is exciting!!
Hope everyone is having a nice monday!
